Its history
goes back to the friars who lived in the convent of San Fortunato Church.
They were asked to preserve official documents in a special container,
known in Latin as armarium, closed with two keys. One key was kept by
the convent guardian, the other one by the town judge. A disposition dated
30th January 1298 confirms where it was ordered to put those judiciary
acts referring to the judiciary controversy involving Todi and the keeper
of the Patrimony of San Pietro. Eventually Bonifacio VIII and the Bishop
Matteo d'Acquasparta settled the question in favour of Todi.
