In a document dating back
to 1276 there is mention of this church so it has to be considered one
of the most ancient churches in the town. The crypt, originally a burial-place,
dates back to the end of the 11th century and the church was built on
it. In 1600 it was annexed to the nearby Benedictine monastery and it
had had several changes: the crypt was closed and an ossuary was settled
there; the floor once in stone was made in bricks; the apses had been
closed by a wall; the roof had been substituted by two brick cross vaults.
The fa?ade had been modified because three windows were opened,
the portal was enlarged, and a dome bell tower was erected. The building
was desecrated and it became a carpenter's shop. It has been recently
restored.
