The name is due to Giuseppe
Garibaldi's statue which was put there in 1890. The cypress tree was planted
in remembrance of his visit to Todi in 1849.
On the south side Viviano degli Atti built the palace in 1552. On a wall
of the building there is the coat of arms of this noble family. Some of
the following owners left their coat of arms as well. As it is possible
to see in the cortile, the coat of arms belonged to the Oddi family is
put on the puteal- and the one belonged to the Prosperi family is put
on a door.
An inscription reminds us of how Viviano degli Atti wanted to embellish
the town, so that he asked that both the shops and the offices of the
justice administration be sent away because they could harm the beauty
of the palace.
