At the end of 12th century a church dedicated
to the Virgin cult was built on two floors, because of the sloping area
and the lack of room. In 1393 the Dominicans moved there and built their
convent. Many frescos dedicated to the Virgin testify their devotion to
Madonna and they enlarged the upper church. On the square-shaped fa?ade
there is a portal supported by two columns with Corinthian capitals. The
higher church is formed by a single nave with three chapels on each side.
Especially noteworthy is the wooden statue depicting the Virgin on the
Throne with the blessing Child on her lap, Sedes Sapientiae. The head
of the Virgin, lost the original, was sculptured in 16th century, while
the child has got a Baroque head, probably belonging to a 17th putto.
